The investment seeks current income and capital appreciation; its secondary objective is conservation of capital. The fund invests mainly in convertible securities of U.S. companies. Convertible securities combine the investment characteristics of bonds and common stocks. Under normal circumstances, it invests at least 80% of the fund's net assets in convertible securities. Convertible securities include bonds, preferred stocks and other instruments that can be converted into or exchanged for common stock or equivalent value. A significant portion of the convertible securities are below-investment-grade.

Biography | George P. Maris is chief investment officer and global head of equities for Principal Asset Management. In this role, he has leadership responsibilities across the equities platform, including managing more than 120 investment professionals across the firm's global investment centers. Maris is also serving as portfolio manager on the firm's international equity strategies. Maris joined Principal in 2023 with 25 years of industry experience, most recently serving as head of equities - Americas at Janus Henderson and lead portfolio manager on the firm’s international and global alpha equity strategies. He held several investment leadership and portfolio management positions throughout his career and has a history of generating strong investment results, improving performance, developing teams and innovating capabilities. Prior to Janus Henderson, he served as lead portfolio manager of the domestic core, international core and global equity strategies at Northern Trust Global Investments. Maris additionally was at Columbia Management Group serving as a portfolio manager on its large-cap and mid-cap core domestic equity strategies. He previously served as a portfolio manager, equity analyst and derivatives strategist at Putnam Investments. Maris served as guest lecturer at several universities including the MIT Sloan School of Management, Wake Forest University and the University of Denver. In addition, he is a member of the Executive Advisory Board of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. Maris received his Bachelor of Arts in economics from Swarthmore College. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago and a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois. George is a holder of the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation. |
