What makes the mind of a trader? What do some of the world’s leading traders and hedge fund managers have to say about trading psychology and success and what do Nobel Prize winners insights tell us about trading success? We will explore the biases which wire our brains to making bad decisions, such as confirmation bias, false consensus bias, optimism bias, attribution bias and many more. You will be surprised that research shows more information can lead to simply overconfidence but no more accuracy in decision making. Alpesh Patel, author of ‘The Mind of a Trader: Lessons in trading strategy from the world’s leading traders’ and hedge fund manager gives an insight into what winning traders do right. He himself went from lawyer to full-time trader to hedge fund manager. It will be fun packed 60 minutes.

During the course of my career, I have been sought-out by international corporate giants, including Barclays, Lloyds Bank, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs and ICICI Bank, as an industry-recognized expert, to deliver advice at C-level on the global economy and growth strategies. As a businessman I built a successful hedge fund and private equity fund with a record of penetrative analysis of FTSE 100, 250, mid-cap companies, as well as global companies and economics and advising investors on successful strategies – with a track record commended by FT.

My media profile and business, political and economic expertise has been utilized by the UK Government for more than a decade from London to New Delhi and Beijing, accompanying the PM and Ministers, business leaders on trade missions, as well as by some of the largest and most respected businesses institutions in the world as an advocate, utilizing my training as a barrister, for growth strategies and business-friendly policies for wealth creation, diversity whilst engaging legislators and policy-makers.

I make frequent appearances on international prime time television as a contributor to global business discussions inspiring confidence in the role of business and pride in entrepreneurship, especially women entrepreneurs and inter-faith diversity benefits, and wealth creation, including the ‘Business is Great’ campaign, BBC’s News night, and Bloomberg, CNN, Sky Business News, CNBC, Channel 4 and US / UK radio. I have written over 200 columns for the Financial Times, and built a worldwide reputation as an authority on economic, business, political issues, with my best-selling books on business, entrepreneurship, global competitiveness topping the charts in UK and international Amazon stores and my political and economic paper review on BBC World TV reaching 80m viewers.

A former Visiting Fellow in Business & Industry at Oxford University and Council Member of Chatham House, my practical expertise is backed up by academic credentials.
