Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.56% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 4.62% or 56.00 points to trade at 1269.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 4.18% or 51.00 points to end at 1270.56 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 3.92% or 8.75 points to 232.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Next PLC (LON:NXT), which lost 4.28% or 213.00 points to trade at 4770.00 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 3.86% or 13.70 points to end at 340.90 and Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO) shed 2.62% or 15.00 points to 558.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1296 to 602 and 431 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.80% or 9.25 to $1160.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 2.33% or 1.25 to hit $52.47 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.15% or 1.22 to trade at $55.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.2255, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8499.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.76% at 103.15.
