Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mobile Telecommunications and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Anglo American PLC (LONDON:AAL), which rose 3.24% or 25.10 points to trade at 800.50 at the close. Mondi PLC (LONDON:MNDI) added 2.44% or 38.00 points to end at 1597.00 and Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN) was up 1.96% or 3.90 points to 203.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ITV PLC (LONDON:ITV), which lost 3.42% or 9.30 points to trade at 262.60 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LONDON:HIK) declined 3.39% or 81.00 points to end at 2311.00 and Schroders PLC (LONDON:SDR) shed 2.24% or 71.00 points to 3100.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1521 to 918 and 524 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.37% or 4.00 to $1094.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.81% or 0.36 to hit $44.30 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.96% or 0.47 to trade at $49.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.5474, while EUR/GBP rose 0.72% to 0.7092.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.28% at 97.61.
