Qualcomm Inc.'s (NASDAQ:QCOM) next mid-range chipset could offer a "huge upgrade" and deliver important performance improvements by utilizing the same architecture as the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
What Happened: Qualcomm's upcoming mid-range chipset, likely to be named Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3, will reportedly offer a notable performance upgrade to users buying mid-range smartphones.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station, known for offering relatively accurate information, Qualcomm could up the ante this year with its mid-range chipset utilizing the same architecture as the latest flagship chipset instead of lagging a year behind.
For instance, the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 chipset launched in 2023 used the architecture of 2022's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.
However, this could change with the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3, which is said to be based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's architecture, cutting down the one-year lag.
Why It Matters: In October 2023, Qualcomm announced several new Snapdragon platforms, focusing on positioning itself as a leader in artificial intelligence. Among these was the Snapdragon X Elite, set to launch in mid-2024, aiming to usher Windows PCs into the "modern AI era."
Later that month, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 emerged as a strong contender against Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro chipset, promising significant performance and AI enhancements for future Android flagships.
This development suggests that the upcoming Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 could also deliver similar AI enhancements and performance boosts, making mid-range smartphones more powerful and competitive.
