Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 9.59% or 102.50 points to trade at 1171.50 at the close. DCC plc (LON:DCC) added 2.53% or 176.0 points to end at 7130.0 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) was up 2.37% or 33.00 points to 1426.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which lost 14.24% or 17.15 points to trade at 103.30 in late trade. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) declined 4.55% or 14.20 points to end at 298.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) shed 4.14% or 98.0 points to 2267.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1239 to 921 and 127 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.15% or 21.25 to $1865.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.33% or 0.14 to hit $41.78 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.45% or 0.20 to trade at $44.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.07% to 1.2737, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.9086.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 94.905.
