Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 1.73% or 38.00 points to trade at 2,240.00 at the close. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) added 1.63% or 15.40 points to end at 961.80 and Diploma PLC (LON:DPLM) was up 1.20% or 50.00 points to 4,210.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 5.73% or 34.00 points to trade at 559.00 in late trade. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 4.01% or 30.60 points to end at 731.60 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICGIN) shed 3.71% or 86.00 points to 2,230.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1062 to 735 and 716 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 2.76% or 65.90 to $2,325.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.17% or 0.13 to hit $75.42 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.39% or 0.31 to trade at $79.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.23% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.74% at 104.83.
