Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Industrial Transportation and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 5.17% or 16.80 points to trade at 342.00 at the close. ConvaTec Group PLC (LON:CTEC) added 3.77% or 10.40 points to end at 286.00 and Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) was up 1.96% or 4.80 points to 249.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Entain PLC (LON:ENT), which lost 5.44% or 43.00 points to trade at 747.00 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 2.49% or 15.40 points to end at 602.00 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) shed 2.42% or 12.20 points to 492.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 949 to 785 and 709 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.45% or 31.35 to $2,196.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.90% or 0.71 to hit $78.22 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.82% or 0.68 to trade at $82.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.29, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.39% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 102.65.
