Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which rose 4.98% or 75.00 points to trade at 1580.50 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 4.67% or 1.80 points to end at 40.34 and Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) was up 3.67% or 10.80 points to 305.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 5.50% or 89.50 points to trade at 1539.00 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 4.10% or 3.06 points to end at 71.62 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) shed 2.90% or 9.50 points to 318.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1091 to 1032 and 131 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.14% or 20.55 to $1779.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.38% or 0.54 to hit $39.81 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.89% or 0.78 to trade at $42.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.63% to 1.2477, while EUR/GBP fell 0.35% to 0.9023.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 97.075.
