Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Household Goods & Home Construction and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 3.57% or 27.80 points to trade at 806.40 at the close. Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB) added 2.19% or 12.60 points to end at 587.20 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 2.12% or 37.00 points to 1785.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 4.88% or 59.50 points to trade at 1159.50 in late trade. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) declined 4.68% or 99.00 points to end at 2014.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 4.20% or 6.20 points to 141.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1045 to 1003 and 317 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.87% or 10.60 to $1230.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.41% or 0.21 to hit $51.77 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.13 to trade at $60.53 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.53% to 1.2813, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.8864.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 96.803.
