Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Travel & Leisure and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.60%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which rose 12.29% or 163.80 points to trade at 1496.80 at the close. Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) added 9.91% or 110.50 points to end at 1226.00 and Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) was up 9.86% or 654.0 points to 7288.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 4.74% or 33.20 points to trade at 666.80 in late trade. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) declined 4.71% or 44.60 points to end at 902.80 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) shed 4.48% or 1.50 points to 32.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1576 to 594 and 150 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.40% or 39.40 to $1603.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.24% or 0.25 to hit $20.34 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.04% or 0.01 to trade at $26.41 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.26% to 1.2384, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.8862.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 99.513.
