Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 7.07% or 7.20 points to trade at 109.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 6.58% or 60.8 points to end at 985.2 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) was up 4.77% or 4.72 points to 103.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF), which lost 1.22% or 150.0 points to trade at 12110.0 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 1.22% or 15.00 points to end at 1219.00 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) shed 1.17% or 28.0 points to 2370.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1423 to 736 and 170 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.34% or 6.55 to $1940.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.38% or 0.16 to hit $42.50 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.11% or 0.50 to trade at $45.43 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.13% to 1.3070, while EUR/GBP rose 0.20% to 0.9030.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 93.230.
