Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Industrial Metals & Mining and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.16% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 4.58% or 88.50 points to trade at 2,020.00 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 4.00% or 27.10 points to end at 704.00 and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICGIN) was up 3.49% or 74.00 points to 2,196.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SWR), which lost 4.40% or 159.00 points to trade at 3,451.00 in late trade. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) declined 2.95% or 238.00 points to end at 7,840.00 and GSK plc (LON:GSK) shed 1.98% or 30.50 points to 1,512.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1157 to 656 and 667 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.68% or 16.75 to $2,468.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.57% or 2.67 to hit $77.40 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.05% or 2.38 to trade at $80.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 103.96.
