Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Transportation, Financial Services and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 6.27% or 6.85 points to trade at 116.05 at the close. The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH) added 5.71% or 189.00 points to end at 3500.00 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 5.02% or 83.50 points to 1747.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which lost 7.22% or 21.40 points to trade at 275.00 in late trade. Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC) declined 5.96% or 9.00 points to end at 142.00 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) shed 1.08% or 50.00 points to 4570.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1447 to 643 and 255 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.28% or 3.45 to $1250.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.87% or 0.45 to hit $52.10 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.06% or 0.64 to trade at $60.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.31% to 1.2653, while EUR/GBP fell 0.90% to 0.8981.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 97.010.
