Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which rose 3.84% or 54.50 points to trade at 1475.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.30% or 51.40 points to end at 1607.80 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 2.83% or 7.68 points to 279.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF), which lost 4.60% or 108.00 points to trade at 2242.00 in late trade. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) declined 1.75% or 115.00 points to end at 6455.00 and Informa Plc (LON:INF) shed 1.66% or 11.00 points to 651.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1284 to 781 and 313 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.52% or 6.50 to $1250.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 4.08% or 2.10 to hit $53.59 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 4.33% or 2.60 to trade at $62.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.43% to 1.2729, while EUR/GBP rose 0.48% to 0.8943.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 96.722.
