Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Oil & Gas Producers and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM), which rose 4.07% or 23.50 points to trade at 600.50 at the close. Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) added 3.80% or 8.10 points to end at 221.20 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa) was up 3.16% or 74.50 points to 2434.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 7.23% or 540.00 points to trade at 6930.00 in late trade. BT Group PLC (LON:BT) declined 2.65% or 6.90 points to end at 253.60 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 2.36% or 27.00 points to 1118.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1007 to 977 and 409 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.01% or 0.14 to $1277.44 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.20% or 0.11 to hit $54.41 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.15% or 0.09 to trade at $60.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.41% to 1.3058, while EUR/GBP rose 1.81% to 0.8931.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 94.60.
