Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.79% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 3.30% or 78.00 points to trade at 2,439.50 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 3.25% or 54.00 points to end at 1,718.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 3.24% or 21.00 points to 669.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB), which lost 8.52% or 29.70 points to trade at 318.90 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 8.36% or 31.50 points to end at 345.30 and Entain PLC (LON:ENT) shed 4.42% or 30.00 points to 648.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 909 to 788 and 595 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.46% or 12.34 to $2,684.74 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.23% or 0.90 to hit $74.22 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.27% or 0.97 to trade at $77.13 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.25% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 109.00.
