Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Metals & Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.64% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which rose 3.60% or 48.50 points to trade at 1397.50 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 3.40% or 6.35 points to end at 193.10 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 3.26% or 27.20 points to 860.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which lost 3.60% or 22.40 points to trade at 599.60 in late trade. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) declined 1.60% or 34.00 points to end at 2095.00 and Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) shed 1.24% or 48.00 points to 3834.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1437 to 697 and 191 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.20% or 3.05 to $1558.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 4.52% or 2.44 to hit $56.38 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 4.31% or 2.51 to trade at $60.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.01% to 1.2206, while EUR/GBP fell 0.50% to 0.9032.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 98.442.
