Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Forestry & Paper and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 3.43% or 20.30 points to trade at 611.60 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) added 3.29% or 61.00 points to end at 1913.50 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 3.12% or 9.50 points to 314.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 9.71% or 108.50 points to trade at 1009.00 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 3.04% or 22.40 points to end at 713.20 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 2.70% or 32.00 points to 1155.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1411 to 740 and 293 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.27% or 3.55 to $1294.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.61% or 0.97 to hit $61.11 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.54% or 1.04 to trade at $68.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.82% to 1.3139, while EUR/GBP fell 0.96% to 0.8530.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 96.833.
