Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 7.62% or 64.00 points to trade at 904.00 at the close. Ferguson PLC (LON:FERG) added 4.03% or 196.00 points to end at 5060.00 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT) was up 3.29% or 59.00 points to 1851.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which lost 2.73% or 50.00 points to trade at 1784.00 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 2.08% or 29.00 points to end at 1364.00 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) shed 1.67% or 10.50 points to 620.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1068 to 765 and 454 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.33% or 4.23 to $1276.03 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.20% or 0.10 to hit $50.36 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.28 to trade at $55.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.26% to 1.3243, while EUR/GBP rose 0.45% to 0.8876.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 93.40.
