Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Life Insurance/Assurance and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 4.47% or 37.00 points to trade at 864.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.98% or 73.60 points to end at 1923.60 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) was up 3.89% or 1.97 points to 52.67 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 2.73% or 49.50 points to trade at 1767.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.27% or 15.20 points to end at 654.20 and Just Eat (LON:JE) shed 2.15% or 13.60 points to 617.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1210 to 886 and 184 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.73% or 11.00 to $1501.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.56% or 0.82 to hit $53.41 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 0.69 to trade at $59.01 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.68% to 1.2409, while EUR/GBP fell 1.17% to 0.8880.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 98.363.
