Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Food & Drug Retailers and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which rose 4.57% or 14.10 points to trade at 322.60 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 4.33% or 56.00 points to end at 1349.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was up 3.30% or 120.00 points to 3752.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which lost 3.71% or 23.50 points to trade at 610.00 in late trade. The Berkeley Group Holdings plc (LON:BKGH) declined 2.61% or 98.00 points to end at 3657.00 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) shed 2.29% or 200.00 points to 8540.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1080 to 982 and 58 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.69% or 8.89 to $1290.59 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.83% or 1.04 to hit $57.87 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.80% or 0.50 to trade at $63.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.36% to 1.3289, while EUR/GBP rose 0.07% to 0.8870.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 93.44.
