Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Food Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 2.88% or 47.00 points to trade at 1677.50 at the close. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) fell 1.56% or 35.00 points to end at 2201.00 and Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) was up 0.97% or 6.60 points to 686.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 3.05% or 4.05 points to trade at 128.85 in late trade. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) declined 3.13% or 38.50 points to end at 1190.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 3.34% or 33.90 points to 980.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1028 to 922 and 357 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.45% or 5.50 to $1217.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.81% or 1.24 to hit $69.73 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.37% or 1.00 to trade at $74.21 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.45% to 1.2944, while EUR/GBP rose 0.40% to 0.8933.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 95.15.
