Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which rose 4.53% or 21.400 points to trade at 494.300 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) added 4.25% or 74.00 points to end at 1815.00 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) was up 3.11% or 10.00 points to 331.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 4.01% or 28.00 points to trade at 670.00 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 2.26% or 59.500 points to end at 2574.500 and SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) shed 1.81% or 16.50 points to 894.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1300 to 883 and 412 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.30% or 3.95 to $1322.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.50% or 0.24 to hit $48.07 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.36% or 0.18 to trade at $49.99 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.21% to 1.2994, while EUR/GBP fell 0.09% to 0.8645.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 95.35.
