Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Aerospace & Defense and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.43% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Informa Plc (LON:INF), which rose 5.84% or 38.00 points to trade at 688.50 at the close. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) added 4.30% or 23.50 points to end at 569.50 and Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT) was up 2.58% or 80.00 points to 3175.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY), which lost 1.86% or 1.36 points to trade at 71.74 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 1.83% or 86.50 points to end at 4651.50 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 1.80% or 19.00 points to 1035.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1000 to 921 and 476 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.73% or 9.11 to $1265.51 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.04% or 0.51 to hit $49.41 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.70% or 0.36 to trade at $51.82 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.17% to 1.2790, while EUR/GBP rose 0.83% to 0.8733.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 97.41.
