Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Mining and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 2.46% or 10.900 points to trade at 454.900 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 2.31% or 24.00 points to end at 1065.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 2.26% or 15.30 points to 693.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ARM Holdings PLC (LON:ARM), which lost 3.84% or 38.00 points to trade at 952.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 2.72% or 12.80 points to end at 458.20 and Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD) shed 2.03% or 8.000 points to 386.500.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1092 to 1000 and 432 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.06% or 0.80 to $1235.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.05% or 0.44 to hit $41.27 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.07 to trade at $43.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.50% to 1.4278, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.7929.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 94.43.
