Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.09% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (LON:ADN), which rose 3.49% or 10.30 points to trade at 305.30 at the close. BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) added 1.78% or 15.70 points to end at 898.50 and 3I Group PLC (LON:III) was up 1.56% or 7.500 points to 486.900 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 5.99% or 121.00 points to trade at 1900.00 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) declined 3.78% or 20.500 points to end at 522.000 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) shed 3.64% or 49.000 points to 1296.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1059 to 1016 and 463 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 1.74% or 21.70 to $1226.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.48% or 0.20 to hit $41.96 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.48% or 0.21 to trade at $44.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.33% to 1.4157, while EUR/GBP rose 0.28% to 0.7959.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 94.86.
