Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which rose 5.50% or 8.0500 points to trade at 154.5500 at the close. Standard Life PLC (LON:SL) added 3.66% or 10.700 points to end at 302.900 and Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) was up 3.44% or 87.00 points to 2618.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which lost 9.07% or 88.00 points to trade at 882.00 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 4.81% or 40.00 points to end at 791.00 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSb) shed 2.41% or 49.5 points to 2002.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1083 to 1001 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.19% or 15.95 to $1357.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.34% or 0.14 to hit $41.28 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.03 to trade at $43.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.71% to 1.3258, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8427.
The US Dollar Index was down 1.19% at 95.54.
