Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs, Real Estate and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 added 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE 100 were CRH (LONDON:CRH), which rose 2.33% or 43.00 points to trade at 1885.00 at the close. British Land Co Plc (LONDON:BLND) added 2.29% or 19.00 points to end at 850.00 and Land Securities Group Plc (LONDON:LAND) was up 2.13% or 27.00 points to 1296.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail (LONDON:RMG), which lost 4.49% or 23.20 points to trade at 493.30 in late trade. Vodafone Group PLC (LONDON:VOD) declined 2.91% or 7.10 points to end at 237.00 and Standard Chartered (LONDON:STAN) shed 2.06% or 22.50 points to 1071.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1522 to 1076 and 448 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.61% or 7.20 to $1179.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.47% or 0.90 to hit $60.53 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.29% or 0.84 to trade at $64.86 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.5493, while EUR/GBP fell 0.53% to 0.7253.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.64% at 95.19.
