Investing.com – Taiwan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the , Optoelectronic and Semiconductor sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted fell 1.63% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Fulgent Sun (TW:9802), which rose 10.00% or 3.20 points to trade at 35.20 at the close. Via Tech (TW:2388) added 9.84% or 0.50 points to end at 5.58 and Kinko Optical (TW:6209) was up 9.69% or 1.40 points to 15.85 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pihsiang (TW:1729), which lost 10.00% or 5.55 points to trade at 49.95 in late trade. Orise Tech (TW:3545) declined 10.00% or 2.45 points to end at 22.05 and Cheer Time (TW:3229) shed 9.98% or 2.30 points to 20.75.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 690 to 150 and 4 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.82% or 0.39 to $46.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.94% or 0.49 to hit $51.72 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.05% or 0.50 to trade at $1095.60 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.20% to 31.615, while TWD/CNY unchanged 0.00% to 0.1962.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 97.35.
