Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Insurance and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sharp Corp. (T:6753), which rose 19.25% or 23.0 points to trade at 142.5 at the close. Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (T:6302) added 8.21% or 39.0 points to end at 514.0 and T&D Holdings, Inc. (T:8795) was up 7.78% or 82.0 points to 1136.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735), which lost 4.39% or 51.0 points to trade at 1110.5 in late trade. Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) declined 3.78% or 26.0 points to end at 661.0 and Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232) shed 3.66% or 18.0 points to 474.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 982 to 946 and 129 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.15% to 20.44.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.73% or 0.34 to $46.24 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 1.00% or 0.49 to hit $48.74 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.73% or 9.95 to trade at $1346.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.66% to 100.96, while EUR/JPY rose 0.48% to 113.66.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.26% at 95.00.
