Proactive Investors - Premier League football clubs are reportedly reworking television package deals to sell to broadcasters ahead of the latest auction, due to start in the coming weeks.
Under the changes, more games could be broadcast, including through the addition of earlier games on Saturdays.
Reported by the Financial Times, club executives are supposedly mulling increasing the number of matches up for auction from 200 for a single season.
Longer deal terms could also be agreed, meaning broadcasters keep the rights for four years, instead of three traditionally.
The changes would apply in the 2025/26 season, with the league’s current £5bn worth of deals - originally signed in 2019 - having been rolled over for a second term due to the pandemic.
Rumours of later games being played on Sunday evenings had circulated, though an FT source suggested this was unlikely.
Fewer packages are also set to be sold, with bundles of 20 games, which were sold to the likes of Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), likely to be scrapped in favour of around five single deals.
The likes of Sky, DAZN and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) subsidiary TNT Sports are tipped to be considering bids, with the League’s changes designed to increase the amount of money brought in from broadcasting rights.
