In a bid to introduce people of all age groups to the joys of gaming, Nintendo ADR (OTC: NTDOY) has unveiled a heartwarming initiative that involves placing their popular Switch consoles within senior centers in Japan.

As first reported by Siliconera, the initiative will provide senior residents with access to a selection of games tailored to their preferences, including titles like Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Nintendo's journey into this thoughtful program began with a series of smaller-scale events designed to gauge the response of elderly participants.

Encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive feedback received from senior citizens, Nintendo has decided to expand its efforts to encompass a total of 200 senior centers.

The Nintendo Switch, known for its return to a more conventional gaming experience compared to the Wii and DS families (which were celebrated for their accessibility), offers an ideal platform for this initiative.

Separately, the Japanese company confirmed plans to support the seven-year-old Switch with new games until at least March 2025. Upcoming titles include "Detective Pikachu Returns" and "Super Mario Bros. Wonder."

Nintendo is also preparing to release a next-generation console in late 2024, although it's unclear if it will be backward compatible with Switch games. Nintendo's focus is on bolstering demand for the Switch rather than rushing to release a new console, despite a decline in Switch sales.
