Investing.com – Netherlands equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX gained 0.37% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were ASML Holding NV (AS:ASML), which rose 4.95% or 7.60 points to trade at 161.25 at the close. Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV (AS:AD) added 0.98% or 0.180 points to end at 18.620 and NN Group NV (AS:NN) was up 0.60% or 0.23 points to 38.33 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Altice NV (AS:ATCA), which lost 4.55% or 0.41 points to trade at 8.57 in late trade. Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) declined 1.85% or 1.700 points to end at 90.020 and Koninklijke Philips NV (AS:PHG) shed 1.35% or 0.45 points to 32.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 76 to 45 and 8 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was up 4.73% to 10.22.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.22% or 0.14 to $63.87 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $69.17 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.13% or 1.70 to trade at $1335.40 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was down 0.21% to 1.2235, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.8847.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 90.33.
