Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Insurance, Banking and Warehousing sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were KDDI Corp. (TOKYO:9433), which rose 4.39% or 115.5 points to trade at 2747.5 at the close. Pioneer Corp. (TOKYO:6773) added 3.69% or 10.0 points to end at 281.0 and Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:3382) was up 1.82% or 92.0 points to 5158.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NKSJ Holdings, Inc. (TOKYO:8630), which lost 6.36% or 239.5 points to trade at 3526.5 in late trade. The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (TOKYO:8750) declined 6.23% or 125.0 points to end at 1882.0 and JFE Holdings, Inc. (TOKYO:5411) shed 5.39% or 101.5 points to 1781.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1569 to 307 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.13% to 28.84.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 1.04% or 0.49 to $46.41 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.52% or 0.26 to hit $48.83 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.93% or 10.40 to trade at $1127.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.25% to 119.70, while EUR/JPY fell 0.56% to 136.48.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 94.69.
