Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Real Estate and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 5.73% to hit a new 6-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were NH Foods Ltd (TYO:2282), which rose 6.99% or 330.00 points to trade at 5,053.00 at the close. Konami Corp. (TYO:9766) added 2.84% or 315.00 points to end at 11,420.00 and Astellas Pharma Inc. (TYO:4503) was up 1.81% or 31.00 points to 1,745.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (TYO:8601), which lost 18.85% or 231.90 points to trade at 998.60 in late trade. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735) declined 13.48% or 1,620.00 points to end at 10,395.00 and SUMCO Corp. (TYO:3436) shed 12.34% or 301.00 points to 2,138.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 3805 to 69 and 21 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.75% to 21.39.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.81% or 0.62 to $76.93 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.78% or 0.62 to hit $80.14 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 1.23% or 30.50 to trade at $2,511.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.28% to 148.94, while EUR/JPY fell 0.20% to 160.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 104.01.
