Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Communication, Services and Transport sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 2.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which rose 13.83% or 834.00 points to trade at 6,863.00 at the close. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) added 13.16% or 55.00 points to end at 473.00 and TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332) was up 9.59% or 396.00 points to 4,525.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yamaha Corp. (TYO:7951), which lost 14.13% or 508.00 points to trade at 3,087.00 in late trade. Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) declined 10.52% or 319.00 points to end at 2,712.00 and Toyota Tsusho Corp. (TYO:8015) shed 10.42% or 316.00 points to 2,717.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 3484 to 315 and 81 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.59% to 21.77.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.86% or 0.67 to $78.58 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.72% or 0.58 to hit $81.42 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.72% or 17.70 to trade at $2,490.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.07% to 150.09, while EUR/JPY fell 0.02% to 162.33.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 103.94.
