Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Glass, Shipbuilding and Non-Metal Minerals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (T:4755), which rose 4.30% or 40.3 points to trade at 977.3 at the close. Terumo Corp. (T:4543) added 2.12% or 120.0 points to end at 5770.0 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) was up 1.72% or 170.0 points to 10055.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689), which lost 6.75% or 36.0 points to trade at 497.5 in late trade. Inpex Corp. (T:1605) declined 4.86% or 67.0 points to end at 1311.5 and Nippon Steel&Sumitomo Metal Corp. (T:5401) shed 3.67% or 97.5 points to 2557.8.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1952 to 1418 and 195 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.50% to 21.03.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.44% or 0.28 to $62.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.27% or 0.18 to hit $66.34 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.10% or 1.30 to trade at $1319.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.29% to 107.03, while EUR/JPY fell 0.24% to 130.98.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 90.27.
