Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Transport and Machinery sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:3382), which rose 8.58% or 382.0 points to trade at 4832.0 at the close. Haseko Corp (T:1808) added 3.81% or 48.0 points to end at 1307.5 and Oji Holdings Corp. (T:3861) was up 2.86% or 14.0 points to 504.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713), which lost 4.65% or 73.0 points to trade at 1496.0 in late trade. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) declined 4.06% or 285.0 points to end at 6739.9 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) shed 2.30% or 7.0 points to 297.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1847 to 1101 and 399 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.85% to 19.93.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.08% or 0.04 to $53.05 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $56.05 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.45% or 5.40 to trade at $1194.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.16% to 114.88, while EUR/JPY rose 0.27% to 122.06.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 101.42.
