Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Precision Instruments, Shipbuilding and Transport sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5201), which rose 9.13% or 76.0 points to trade at 908.0 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) added 6.96% or 490.0 points to end at 7534.9 and Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) was up 6.02% or 5.0 points to 88.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yokogawa Electric Corp. (T:6841), which lost 7.76% or 138.0 points to trade at 1641.0 in late trade. Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003) declined 7.18% or 13.0 points to end at 168.0 and Kuraray Co., Ltd. (T:3405) shed 7.07% or 126.0 points to 1655.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1988 to 987 and 340 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.15% to 19.36.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was down 0.84% or 0.44 to $51.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.49% or 0.27 to hit $54.78 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.26% or 3.25 to trade at $1232.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.01% to 112.39, while EUR/JPY fell 0.10% to 119.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 100.47.
