Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Communication, Machinery and Shipbuilding sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (T:6302), which rose 13.38% or 63.0 points to trade at 534.0 at the close. Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T:5715) added 7.45% or 12.0 points to end at 173.0 and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (T:6703) was up 7.10% or 11.0 points to 166.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DOWA Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5714), which lost 7.68% or 52.0 points to trade at 625.0 in late trade. Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) declined 5.67% or 56.0 points to end at 932.0 and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4502) shed 4.90% or 259.0 points to 5030.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 948 to 926 and 129 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.17% to 27.33.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.40% or 0.18 to $44.48 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.22% or 0.10 to hit $45.42 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.77% or 9.80 to trade at $1274.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.50% to 108.73, while EUR/JPY fell 0.35% to 123.83.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 94.05.
