Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 2.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689), which rose 17.95% or 100.0 points to trade at 657.0 at the close. Japan Tobacco Inc (T:2914) added 7.59% or 137.5 points to end at 1949.5 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) was up 6.65% or 88.0 points to 1411.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (T:6952), which lost 9.99% or 167.0 points to trade at 1505.0 in late trade. NEC Corp. (T:6701) declined 7.13% or 420.0 points to end at 5470.0 and Shinsei Bank, Ltd. (T:8303) shed 5.56% or 66.0 points to 1122.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2705 to 875 and 114 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0% to 25.96.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 1.51% or 0.61 to $39.66 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 1.26% or 0.55 to hit $42.97 a barrel, while the October Gold Futures contract rose 0.20% or 3.90 to trade at $1977.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.03% to 105.92, while EUR/JPY fell 0.14% to 124.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 93.523.
