Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Transportation Equipment and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Ube Industries, Ltd. (T:4208), which rose 4.75% or 150.0 points to trade at 3310.0 at the close. Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064) added 3.88% or 104.5 points to end at 2796.5 and Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (T:4021) was up 3.73% or 150.0 points to 4170.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301), which lost 4.41% or 87.0 points to trade at 1884.0 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 3.36% or 200.0 points to end at 5750.0 and Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) shed 3.02% or 32.0 points to 1028.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2306 to 1084 and 184 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 11.72% to 22.08.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.24% or 0.15 to $63.70 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $67.06 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.89% or 11.90 to trade at $1342.20 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.33% to 106.44, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 131.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 89.52.
