Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Paper & Pulp and Textile sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Maruha Nichiro Corp (TYO:1333), which rose 9.78% or 227.00 points to trade at 2,547.00 at the close. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) added 4.10% or 18.00 points to end at 457.00 and Toray Industries, Inc. (TYO:3402) was up 4.03% or 28.40 points to 732.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107), which lost 4.67% or 430.00 points to trade at 8,770.00 in late trade. Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (TYO:4021) declined 4.17% or 280.00 points to end at 6,430.00 and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104) shed 2.18% or 70.00 points to 3,135.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2070 to 1408 and 276 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.04% to 26.31.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.38% or 0.44 to $115.75 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.36% or 0.43 to hit $118.94 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.55% or 10.00 to trade at $1,829.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.44% to 134.43, while EUR/JPY fell 0.01% to 139.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 105.17.
