Investing.com – Italy equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Financials, Chemicals and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Milan, the Investing.com Italy 40 declined 3.81% to hit a new 1-month low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com Italy 40 were Snam (MI:SRG), which rose 0.57% or 0.028 points to trade at 4.946 at the close. Leonardo Finmeccanica SpA (MI:LDOF) fell 0.11% or 0.010 points to end at 9.240 and Italcementi (MI:ITAI) was down 0.57% or 0.060 points to 10.430 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Banco Popolare (MI:BAPO), which lost 10.08% or 0.2940 points to trade at 2.6220 in late trade. Banca Popolare Milano (MI:PMII) declined 9.90% or 0.0481 points to end at 0.4380 and Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA (MI:BMPS) shed 9.14% or 0.0505 points to 0.5020.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 373 to 32 and 14 ended unchanged on the Milan Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.61% or 0.30 to $48.77 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.59% or 0.30 to hit $50.24 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.90% or 11.45 to trade at $1287.35 a troy ounce.

EUR/USD was up 0.24% to 1.1279, while EUR/GBP rose 0.44% to 0.7928.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 94.46.
