LONDON (Reuters) - EDF (PA:EDF) has called for partners to help it test the viability of producing hydrogen and technology to remove carbon dioxide from the air at is planned Sizewell C project in the southeast of England.

Britain plans to increase the use of hydrogen fuel to help meet its climate target of net zero emissions by 2050 and is likely to also need carbon removal technology to meet the goal.

France's EDF is building Britain's first new nuclear plant in more than two decades, Hinkley Point C, with backing from China's CGN. It also hopes to build Sizewell C, with the British government said to be looking at financing options.

EDF late on Monday issued two expressions of interest asking for companies with expertise to come forward to help with the projects.

"By using spare heat to enable some of the other low carbon technologies needed alongside nuclear, Sizewell C will become a flexible energy hub and provide even greater value for energy users," Julia Pyke, Sizewell C Director of Finance and Regulation said in a statement.
