Proactive Investors - Ceres Power Holdings PLC said it has signed contracts with German giants Linde Engineering and Robert Bosch for a 1 megawatt (MW) green hydrogen production demonstration.

The collaboration, which will start in 2024 and last two years, aims to validate the performance, cost, and operational functionality of the AIM-listed company’s solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) technology on an industrial scale.

Ceres already has its first 100 kilowatt (kW) electrolyser module on test, from which it revealed initial results earlier this year are proving that the technology can deliver green hydrogen around 25% more efficiently than incumbent lower temperature technologies.

The new 1MW demonstration will be located on a Bosch site in Stuttgart, Germany, with Bosch providing expertise in product industrialisation and mass manufacturing, and also experienced using Ceres' solid oxide fuel technology (SOFC), with which the electrolysis technology shares the same material sets, manufacturing process, equipment, and stack design.

Part of the giant Linde Group, Linde Engineering is known for its expertise in hydrogen, with Ceres highlighting its capabilities in industrial process engineering of chemical plants and a global footprint.

Working together, the three companies are aiming to evaluate and qualify SOEC technology for large-scale industrial applications, providing validation at a system level in order to enable commercialisation.

Ceres chief executive Phil Caldwell said the vision for the partnership is “to set a new industry standard for solid oxide electrolysers, leading to widespread adoption in industrial applications”.

He said the combination of Ceres' technology, Bosch's strength in scaled manufacturing and Linde Engineering's expertise in hydrogen production, processing, distribution and storage, “we will establish a partnership that can make our technology even more competitive and prepare it for mass market adoption at scale”.
