Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemical, Shipbuilding and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6767), which rose 16.46% or 80.0 points to trade at 566.0 at the close. Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (T:4063) added 14.51% or 898.0 points to end at 7087.0 and Minebea Co., Ltd. (T:6479) was up 13.76% or 108.0 points to 893.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Itochu Corp. (T:8001), which lost 6.51% or 82.3 points to trade at 1182.2 in late trade. Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) declined 2.45% or 23.0 points to end at 915.0 and Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (T:7912) shed 2.03% or 24.0 points to 1156.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1478 to 466 and 111 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.20% to 29.72.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.19% or 0.08 to $42.84 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.46% or 0.21 to hit $45.02 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.16% or 2.15 to trade at $1326.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.87% to 105.55, while EUR/JPY rose 0.98% to 116.11.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 97.24.
