Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Software & Computer Services and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.69% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 3.88% or 23.50 points to trade at 630.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 2.18% or 29.00 points to end at 1360.00 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 1.94% or 5.60 points to 294.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 3.45% or 61.00 points to trade at 1705.00 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 2.52% or 114.00 points to end at 4406.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 2.51% or 38.00 points to 1478.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1315 to 673 and 417 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.27% or 3.38 to $1250.28 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.88% or 0.39 to hit $44.63 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.48 to trade at $47.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.01% to 1.2943, while EUR/GBP fell 0.71% to 0.8786.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 95.77.
