LONDON (Reuters) - Britain will end a transition period with the European Union on Dec. 31, a spokesman for Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday, after Scotland's first minister called on the leader to extend it because of complications from the new COVID strain.

"Our position on the transition period is clear ... It will end on Dec. 31, that remains our position," he told reporters.

"We need to ratify any agreement ahead of Jan. 1, which means time is in short supply and that's why our negotiators continue to work hard."

Rip UK this country is really smacking themselves in the face 😂
Perfect. You fish in your waters and we will fish in ours, simple.
I don't and I'm Scottish. Either way the eu will have to pay more for fish, simple.
The uk is Europe's biggest customer, we have a trade surplus of -97bn €. Short term prices may rise while e source alternative markets and supply chains. But for you guys, where are you gonna sell all your beef? Ireland alone sells 270,000t of beef to the uk. For us we can buy elsewhere, but your market share will be lost. Wake up, from January you are losing your biggest customer.
the last time I looked the USA was not in Europe. Figures from 2019 show a trade deficit of -97bn € in favour of eu. Economically the eu would be crazy not to sign an FTA with uk, but if they don't there are lots of other countries waiting to replace their goods
good!
Good, like I said before, pain needs to be felt on both sides before this gets sorted and a sensible agreement can he had.
